Debra Sterling
Debbie Sterling is a female engineer and founder of GoldieBlox, a toy company out to inspire the next generation of female engineers. GoldieBlox is an award-winning construction set and book series starring Goldie, the girl inventor who solves problems by building simple machines. GoldieBlox launched on Kickstarter in 2012 and landed on the shelves of Toys “R” Us less than one year later. It has been featured in countless press outlets including the “TODAY Show,” TIME and Forbes. Prior to founding GoldieBlox, Sterling served as a brand strategy consultant for clients including Microsoft and the New York Knicks. Her inspiration to create a mission-driven company came in 2008, when she spent 6 months volunteering at a nonprofit in rural India. This experience helped pave the way to finding her true passion: tackling the gender gap in STEM. Sterling completed her degree in engineering at Stanford (Product Design, ’05).
