Alba Martinez
Alba Martinez is a principal in Vanguard’s Retail Investor Group. Since May, 2010, Martinez has led Vanguard’s Core and Voyager Services, a group of 600 Investment Professionals that offer investment guidance and client services to 5 Million Vanguard investors. Prior to joining Vanguard, Martinez served as president and chief executive officer of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and also as commissioner of the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS). Martinez has also served as executive director of Congreso de Latinos Unidos. Active in civic affairs, Martinez is a member of the Devereux Foundation’s national board of directors, a member of the Comcast Corporation-NBC Universal Joint Diversity Council Executive Committee and vice-chair of its Hispanic Advisory Council. Martinez’ professional and community awards include an Honorary Doctorate from Arcadia University, the University of Pennsylvania Fels School of Government Leadership for Results Award, Philadelphia Business Journal’s Women of Distinction award, the Rutgers Law School’s Mary Philbrook Public Interest Award, the Puerto Rican Week Festival’s Citizen of the Year Award, Equality Forum’s Distinguished Service Award, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Fidelity Award and the William J. Clothier Memorial Award. Martinez received her law degree in 1985 from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., and received her bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the University of Puerto Rico in 1982.
